Línea de hormigas was the culmination of a collective residency with Diego Fernández, Cristóbal Lehyt, Felipe Mujica and Johanna Unzueta at CAPACETE, in Rio de Janeiro, during July 2007. CAPACETE was located on the top of the hill and neighborhood of Santa Teresa. During the stay the show was planned and worked on, in the most collaborative way possible. Artists lived together and exchanged information with local artists (who mostly lived in the same neighborhood), closing the residency with a public talk.

Both the residency and the exhibition received the support of DIRAC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. Also both events were part of a larger project informally called The Latin Tour, which consisted in a series of exhibitions and shows by the same 4 artists in 3 different cities in Latin America (Capacete and A Gentil Carioca in Rio de Janeiro, VK Proyectos-Feria La Otra in Bogotá, and finally Perros Negros in Mexico City), between July and November 2007. This was the first project organized outside of Galería Chilena. As an informative complement I designed the website www.lanubeloca.org – pretty much dead now – with information about Galería Chilena as well as current collaborative projects and also individual art projects by each participating artist (indluding Juan Céspedes and Joe Villablanca).

CAPACETE is an educational project founded and directed by Helmut Batista with emphasis in living together as a way to understand and to relate wuth the social and artistic context of Rio de Janeiro. A Gentil Carioca is a commercial gallery founded and directed by Marcio Botner, Ernesto Neto and Laura Lima, 3 artist friends who studied together and that until today are still involed in the gallery with the objective of promoting the work of a younger generation of Rio based artists.

Algunas bestias was the third and closing component of a tour informally called The Latin Tour (preceded by a group residency at CAPACETE, a group show at A Gentil Carioca, both in Rio de Janeiro and a group show at Feria La Otra, invited by VK Proyectos, in Bogotá). The exhibition temporarily took over one of the storage spaces of Contramar, a high-end seafood restaurant located in La Roma neighborhood. The tables used by Cristóbal Lehyt in his installation were already in storage, mysteriously awaiting him, as they became the remake of an installation made by Cristóbal also with tables at La Panadería in 2001.

Perros Negros was a collective founded by Adriana Lara, Agustina Ferreira, and Fernando Mesta. Besides organizing shows and events they regularly publish the art and literature fanzine Pazmaker. The exhibition received the support of the Chilean Embassy in Mexico City, with the generous donation of 2 crates of Chilean red wine for the opening. Both the exhibition and whole tour received the support of DIRAC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
