A Rehearsal
Felipe Mujica and Johanna Unzueta
The project we propose is a sort of a test drive.
Or something like a rehearsal of a play.
Or like working on a model of a building… At 1:1 scale.
(A model which can be re-thought and changed in the process of its making)
With works and documentation of what once was.
Geometric Abstraction –with its formalism, idealism– is supposed to be absent or in opposition to other kinds of knowledge such as the personal, the exotic, and the political.
Yet the works selected for this exhibition play with this confrontation.
They exploit it, from close and from far away, quietly and loudly.
A flying body crosses the US Mexico border in a semi-circle trajectory.
A ceramic turtle resting over a neo-geo GLO platform.
A CIRCLE in constant movement, dancing, floating.
Archive photographs of minimal-like sculptures and paintings with the artist fashionably posing next to them.
Burnt wood used as a compass on a wall, or over 2 walls.
Curtains as walls, or as banners.
Music of a band. A speech.
These are the options.
The “real” show will happen in September 2015 at Galería Die Ecke in Santiago, Chile.
The show and its rehearsal will include works and sometimes documentation of work by Ana Maria Millan, Jorge Gonzalez, Margarita Azurdia, Javier Tellez, and us, Johanna Unzueta and Felipe Mujica.
