Press release excerpt:

Using drawing as a starting point, No State Exhibition deals with artistic, social and historical subjects, yet all through the strategy of appropriation, which makes the diverse aspects of this show complement and also enter into conflict with each other.

Die Ecke’s space will mainly be occupied by three curtain/drawings, which use as base three small linocut engravings by the Russian avant-garde artists Alexander Rodchenko. The title of the show, No State Exhibition, is based on the title of another one: State Exhibition No. 19, which took place in 1920 and in it Rodchenko presented a series of works and an essay, attached to the wall, in which he explained with some degree of scientific language used, that “each work as an experiment”. Mujica appropriates these not so well known images and he re-interprets them, amplifies and adapts them to the exhibition space, to later confront with drawings made based on flyers the artists gathered walking the streets of New York City. These drawings canalize another style of appropriation, one in which the references are popular and semi-marginal.
