The three curtains presented at ARCO 2012 belong to a series of curtains that appropriate drawings by a historical modernist artist, in this case, by Alexander Rodchenko yet in others by Paul Klee and Raúl Lozza. Original scale and technique are replaced/changed to reinsert the work into space, producing a bodily encounter with the viewer. These works also function as homages and as research exercises – or platforms. Learning moments both for me as for the viewer.
The three No State II curtains were fabricated in Santiago de Chile by Myriam Luz, a seamstress I have worked with before in multiple projects. For this one and previous ones, I asked Myriam to decide the kind of stitches to be used for each trace of the drawing.
