Between 2013 and 2014 Proyectos Ultravioleta occupied a basement space inside a shopping mall in the historic center of Guatemala City. Previously the space had been used as a VIP space of a billiard saloon. As a response to its anti-white cube quality, with its colored floor, blue ceiling a la Yves Klein and dark veneered wood walls, it was decided to produce and install a black and white show. The only work with color installed was a bright blue and red curtain, which hung in the mall hall outside the exhibition space and only during the opening of the show.
As an educational component of Proyectos Ultravioleta, a series of public events were organized. Stands out a sculpture workshop titled Línea de hormigas [Line of Ants], which started in the exhibition space and finished in the Plaza de la Constitución [Constitution Square].
This exhibition was part of a larger collaborative project realized with Johanna Unzueta during 2013 – also titled Arquitectura y amistad, which began with a residency at Beta Local, San Juan, and continued with 2-person shows at Proyectos Ultravioleta, Ciudad de Guatemala, Die Ecke Arte Contemporaneo, Santiago de Chile, and New Capital Projects, Chicago. The Project culminated with the design and launching of the publication Arquitectura y Amistad.
This was the first exhibition with Proyectos Ultravioleta, the beginning of a tight collaboration that continues until today.
