PetanK, the exhibition, aims to create a dialogue between a selection of artworks, design objects, and archival material from the Pim De Rudder Collection and works by Fabiola Burgos Labra, Vicente Fuenzalida, and Felipe Mujica, three Chilean artists from different generations, yet with a shared interest and deep respect for material experimentation and simplicity of forms. Having grown up in Latin America, the precarity of society is reflected in the cultural field, which in turn is reflected in the material possibilities, which is why simplicity and experimentation become survival strategies.
The selected artworks and objects from Pim De Rudder’s collection are intended to serve as local and historical counterparts to our own works, as well as to the tradition of Geometric Abstraction and Modernism in Latin America, which has had important movements in Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, and other countries. Within this dialogue, the Neo Concrete Art movement, which emerged in Brazil in the late-50s, gave us another point of view as it prioritized subjectivity, and, most notably, the viewer’s active, sensory participation. Considering the importance of localities, of how art movements develop according to their contexts, the exhibition also intends to shed light on the commonalities between these very distinct histories, marked by colonization, yet also by cultural exchange and synchronicity.
As a way to delve deeper into the collection and the history of Pim De Rudder, the exhibition proposes to take over the whole house, or as much as allowed… exhibition space, garden, bar, and part of the XVII Century house, where the family collection has sat quietly and patiently for over 60 years. As the petanque balls create a sort of planetary system around the cochonnet*, the exhibited artworks and objects will hopefully create new and dynamic relations, with cross-historical and cross-continental conversations at the center of this system. As gravity pulls, we try to mess it up.

Skinny Dipping is a Brussels-based artist-run project by Fabiola Burgos Labra and Felipe Mujica. Its main intention is to present new flavours, intensities, and ideas to the local public through exhibitions, talks, film screenings, workshops, and dinner parties, hopefully becoming a bridge into displaced knowledge, which will travel to Belgium from Latin America, the US, or other parts of the world. We also intend to publish artist books and catalogues. To do all this, Skinny Dipping is open to receive input and energy from close collaborators, friends, and institutions.
